Ready for a challenge in 2015?

In October, Carol Porter decided to take on one of the biggest challenges of her life: hiking the Cactus to Clouds trail in Southern California. The trail is strenuous, climbing over 10,000 feet in the steepest elevation gain of any hike in the United States.  Starting at the desert floor in Palm Springs, it climbs high into the alpine to the top of San Jacinto mountain.

“I did the Get Active Challenge to honor all of the women in my life who have been impacted by breast cancer.”

As a personal trainer Carol has worked with many breast cancer survivors from the time they’ve been diagnosed until a full recovery. “Some of the best work I’ve done personally has been with them.”

The Breast Cancer Fund’s mission resonates with Carol because she works to prevent illness through fitness and healthy behavior. “The Breast Cancer Fund is the only charity seeking to prevent breast cancer rather than focusing on screening and treatment.”

As a personal trainer, Carol knew she’d be able to handle the physical aspect of the hike—she was more concerned about fundraising. She ended up being pleasantly surprised. “The fundraising was really easy, and it’s amazing because I felt a lot of support and everyone really got behind me.”

Ultimately, Carol said people were thrilled to support a physical challenge and do it for an important cause. All her clients who donated would check in and ask her about her training and fundraising. She ended up surpassing her goal and raising $6,000.

You don’t have to be a personal trainer to get active. You can make your resolution to get moving in 2015 more meaningful by turning your efforts into a fundraiser for breast cancer prevention!

Whether you’re taking on a marathon, bike ride, your first triathlon, or even organizing a walk around your neighborhood, we’ll help you stay motivated to move.

We’ll provide prizes to reward your fundraising prowess! Depending on how much you raise, you could get LUNA bars, Klean Kanteens or even a pair of Ahnu shoes!

Join the Breast Cancer Fund’s Get Active Challenge to turn any activity into your own personal fundraiser for prevention.

Here’s how it works:

First step: Register for an event or establish your own fitness goal.

Second step: Register as a participant and create your Get Active personalized fundraising page. Once you register, visit your Champion Center, where you’ll find many tools including customizing text on your page, setting a fundraising goal and sending out emails to your supporters. Let your friends know about your goals, why you’re taking on this challenge and that you’re supporting groundbreaking efforts to stop breast cancer before it starts.

Third step: Begin gathering donations. It’s easier than you think, and there are no fees for registering or participating. Everything you raise will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund! Try setting a goal of fundraising $1,000. Again, exclusive incentive prizes are available to support your fundraising efforts. The challenge runs as long as you’re working to achieve your goals, so get started today!

Fourth step: When you reach your goals, please share stories and photos with us!
