Tiburon woman honored for battle to remove toxics from products (Marin Independent Journal, 12/2/2010)


This Marin Independent Journal article highlights Breast Cancer Fund President and CEO Jeanne Rizzo as the recipient of a prestigious environmental leadership award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as well as the Breast Cancer Fund's work to ensure that the California Green Chemistry Initiative stays on track.

Jeanne Rizzo of Tiburon, who heads the San Francisco-based Breast Cancer Fund, received a Northern California environmental "hero" award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for her work on passage of a state "green chemistry" law.

The Breast Cancer Fund helped promote the 2008 law, which empowered the state to ensure consumer products are safe by removing toxic chemicals. The law gave the state Department of Toxic Substances Control until Jan. 1, 2011 to adopt new regulations to enforce the law.
